Czech Republic – EMF EURO 2018 Champions

Czech Republic are the the new European Champions after beating Romania 4-1 in the final. The match started in pouring rain after an extreme thunderstorm in Kiev on Saturday night. The extreme weather conditions and the wet pitch created difficult playing conditions but the match officials decided to play the match as the ‘the show must go on’.

Czech Republic took the lead with an early goal from Jan Koudelka at the 2nd minute and doubled the lead with another goal by Ondřej Paděra in the 7th minute.  In the 2nd half Jan Koudelka scored another 2 goals completing a personal hat-trick and an unforgettable evening. Romania managed to get one goal back by Inout Andrei Nemitanu. 4-1 the final score and first European title for World Champions Czech Republic.

Semi Finals: England vs. Czech Republic and Romania vs. Kazakhstan

What a day it was. England beat Ukraine in a dramatic penalty shoot out and qualified to EMF EURO semi final for the first time. Romania passed Montenegro with a solid 2-0 over Montenegro on their journey to regain the European title. World champions Czech Republic and former champions Kazakhstan proved to be the better teams against Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Day 4 – Approaching the money time

Ireland 0:2 Albania

The day kicked off as Ireland faced Albania hoping to go out of the tournament on a high. It wasn’t to be however as the crashed out to a 2-0 defeat. Albania were just about too strong for them and moved the ball around a lot quicker and ultimately Ireland just couldn’t quite create enough. > Full match report.

Azerbaijan 6:2 Turkey

Up next was Azerbaijan vs Turkey with Turkey being in the similar scenario of just trying to end a poor tournament on a positive note. It was a more hard fought performance than we’ve seen in recent games for Turkey but in the end they plummeted to another heavy defeat with the final score 6-2. > Full match report.

Kazakhstan 1:1 Bulgaria

Kazakhstan vs Bulgaria proved to be an interesting one with both sides in great stead for qualification. It was far from an exciting affair however with both sides struggling to break each other down. Kazakhstan must have thought they’d won it in the second half when they went ahead but a late fight back from Bulgaria shared the points to make it 1-1. > Full match report.

Spain 5:2 Austria

A crucial match in group B saw Spain come up against Austria in a real decider for qualification with Spain having to win to keep it in their hands. Austria came out firing and were the better team for the most part of the first half. They took the lead early on but a Spain fight back at the end saw it go into half time 2-1 to Spain. The second half went all Spain’s way with Austria falling apart and the final score ended 5-2. > Full match report.

Serbia 1:0 Hungary

Serbia kept their qualification hopes in tact with a 1-0 win over Hungary. It was again far from an exciting encounter but Serbia did what they do best and physically out did their opponents and in the end the one goal enough to separate them. > Full match report.

Montenegro 3:1 Slovakia
Montenegro cruised through against Slovakia 3-1 to ensure a tasty encounter in their final match against Ukraine. Slovakia gave it their best efforts and fought but with a late goal but it was not enough to match Montenegro. > Full match report.

Ukraine 3:0 Belgium

Ukraine still had to do their bit in order to keep qualification alive and cruised to a 3-0 win over Belgium. The hosts didn’t have to step out of second gear for much of the game as Belgium really couldn’t physically match their opponents.  > Full match report.

England 4:0 Israel

The last game of the day was England vs Israel in a must win game for England to put the pressure on Spain. It was a classy display from England who stalked down Israel at every attempt. Israel gave it their best efforts and had their own chances but England ultimately the stronger side and powered through with a 4-0 win. > Full match report.

Day 3 – the race for quarter finals continues

Day 3 of the EMF EURO 2018 did not disappoint as it was judgement day for several teams whether that be confirming their qualification, or needing a win to keep it alive.

We kicked off with Ireland vs Kazakhstan. Ireland had not got off to a good start in the tournament with back to back defeats and their luck didn’t change as Kazakhstan cruised to a 3-0 victory. Ireland battled hard but ultimately it was never going to be enough as they crashed out of the tournament. >Full match report.

Up next it was Hungary vs Turkey with Turkey in the same position as Ireland coming in on the back of heavy defeats. Unfortunately for them, this was to be no different and Hungary bullied and carried their way through to a 5-1 victory. >Full match report.

An intriguing one came next as Bosnia and Herzegovina faced Bulgaria. Bosnia needed the win to seal their qualification to the next round and they did just that edging through with a 1-0 win. Its not over for Bulgaria who face Kazakhstan next. >Full match report.

Belgium faced the Montenegro next who really impressed against Italy and Belgium without a win were up against it. That prevailed as Montenegro flew through with a comfortable 3-0 win. Belgium are now out of the tournament with a game remaining and Montenegro have an important game against Slovakia next. >Full match report.

Italy faced Slovakia next in a game where Italy really wanted to prove doubters wrong. They got off to a flyer in the opening game beating Ukraine 6-3, but a set back to Montenegro last time out caused some pressure. Italy dominated the early phases and took a 2-0 lead but Slovakia never stopped working and eventually pulled it back to 2-2. >Full match report.

Probably one of the most anticipated of the day was Czech Republic vs Serbia. The Czechs one of the tournament favourites coming up against the exciting, free scoring Serbia. Serbia looked to stop the Czechs playing their football and use their physically imposing style throughout the game. Czech republic however took an instant lead early in the game before Serbia’s Točic fired back straight after and that’s how the score finished. >Full match report.

Romania could seal their qualification to the next round with a win over Israel. Israel had impressed against Spain despite the loss and were confident ahead of this one. Romania however stalked and hunted down their opponents from the first whistle and gave them no time to manoeuvre. Romania cruised to a 2-0 victory and are in the quarter finals. >Full match report.

The last game of the day was England face Austria in a true battle to save their qualification hopes. Neither team could afford to lose and that was clear from the off with very end to end stuff but ultimately England took full control and really pressurised Austria. Austria however were not to be reckoned with and took the lead right before the break. England stayed composed and didn’t crumble and fired back in the second half with two quick fire goals to win the game. >Full match report.

Drama and great matches on day 2

The second day of EMF EURO 2018 picked up where it left off from the first day with more drama and lots of goals.

The first game match of the was between Ireland and Bulgaria who rested the previous day. Ireland hoped to get their first points of the tournament but the well prepared Bulgarian were the stronger side. Final score 3:2 for Bulgaria. > Full match details.

Serbia face a Turkey side who were looking to improve on their 7-3 thumping at the hands of Czech Republic. It wasn’t the case however as Serbia cruised to a 5-1 victory looking very impressive in the process. > Full match details.

It was then on to a cracker of a game between Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia edged through with a 4-2 win but it wasn’t all plain sailing for them. Albania took advantage of sloppy play by Bosnia and went into half time 2-1 up. Bosnia however really turned on the style in the second half with three goals to send them into a 4-2 lead. > Full match details.

Next up was Italy vs Montenegro. Italy looked very impressive in the opening disposing of the host nation Ukraine 6-3 but we’re given a reality check when Montenegro eased through with a 2-0 win. Italy looked sharp with their passing and pressing but ultimately it was Montenegro who were the better team in front of goal. > Full match details.

Ukraine came into their second game determined to right some wrongs from the opening game against Italy and got off to a flyer in the first half taking a 2-0 lead into half time. This was followed by a third in the second half to make it 3-0 which was later cancelled out with a consolation from Slovakia to make it 3-1. > Full match details.

Czech Republic came into their second game full of confidence expecting big things after their impressive opening win. They far from had it their own way however and Azerbaijan took the lead in the first half as Czech Republic looked far from their best. Azerbaijan continued throughout the game to make life difficult for the favourites but Czech Republic fired back with two very late goals to edge through 2-1. > Full match details.

Next up was England vs Romania who are one of the other favourites in this tournament being six-time winners. England had looked good against a difficult Spain side and were full of confidence in this one. It didn’t prevail however and after what was a bright start from England too many unforced errors led to several Romania goals eventually giving them a 4-0 lead. England did fire back with two of their own but ultimately Romania the better side. > Full match details.

Spain vs Israel was the last game of the night and it was an intriguing one at that. Israel looked to be the more lively in front of goal coming close several times. Spain passed the ball around well but couldn’t break down the brick wall at the back for Israel. Spain however did not stop pressing and their efforts eventually paid off with a late goal to win it 1-0. > Full match details.

Plenty of goals and excitement on the first day

EMF EURO 2018 kicked off with the interesting meeting between 2016 European Champions Kazakhstan and Albania who played in EMF EURO for first time in their history. Albania were a difficult opponent but Kazakhstan managed to win 1-0 and start the tournament on the right foot. > Full match details.

Ireland returned to EMF EURO after a two years and had a tough opening against the strong team of Bosnia and Herzegovina and lost 3:1. > Full match details.

In the first match of group A, Belgium hoped to surprise Slovakia, but Slovakians were better prepared and experienced which enabled them to secure an easy 4:1 win. > Full match details.

One of the tournament’s top favorites, World champions Czech Republic managed to beat Turkey 7:3 in eventful and entertaining match. > Full match details.

In the 2nd match of group D Hungary managed to gain a tough win against newcomer Azerbaijan 1-0 after a disputable penalty. > Full match details.

As the sun started to set down the stadium filled up for the opening ceremony attended by Kiev City mayor and formal world famous boxers Vitaly Klichko.

After the opening ceremony and in front of a full stadium, as home team Ukraine took on Italy. It turned out to be an awful experience for the host team, suffering a painful 3:6 defeat. > Full match details.

Last two matches were from group B, probably one of the strongest groups in the tournament. The two great soccer nations of Spain and England have shown really decent minifootball which resulted in a 2:2 draw. In such cases it is common to say that friendship won, but in fact spectacular minifootball has won. > Full match details.
